Steven's 5!

Like usually happens around here Steven's birthday was kind of spread out through a couple of days.  We had his cake with the Morrise side on Sunday and then celebrated his actual birthday on Tuesday.  All he said he wanted for his birthday was a Darth Vader costume and a red light saber.  So we thought a Star Wars cake would be great.  He helped make it and thought it was the coolest.

 He opened one present that night and we made sure it was the one he had been waiting for.

 I think he wore it all day on Monday...

 ...except when he let William try it on.

 Of course they had to watch Star Wars on Monday with their friend as well as play with the light sabers all day.

 Tuesday morning he opened the rest of his presents: a ninja turtles back pack filled with ninja turtles from Grandma and Grandpa Balls, some fun Zoob racing kits from Grandma and Grandpa Morrise, and some treats and a small skateboard from Jacob and I.  Oh and I can't forget that Jenny, Jacob's sister, gave Steven 5 dollars which he wanted to spend on his birthday.  We went to the dollar store and walked around 3 times, then went to Walmart and walked around then back to the Dollar Store where he finally made his purchases:  an activity/coloring book, circus peanuts, candy bar, and a drink for Christopher (his body just had to buy it for him.  It made my heart happy), then later we went and got some new crayons.

 For our family dinner out Steven requested Pizza Pie Cafe.  Jacob was telling our neighbors (who are pretty high up in the company) how much of a fan Steven is and they gave us a load of free coupons.  Our neighbors are the best!  Steven's favorite part was getting to drink some Soda (usually we just have water).

 On the way home, he had two phone calls to wish him happy birthday, but he couldn't hear either that well and ended up passing us the phone while they were still singing/talking to him.

 We sure love our 5 year old and hope he had a great birthday!

 Steven is really just a good kid.  He wants to do what's right, most of the time.  A couple of times I've told him he can do something that Jacob had told him not to do, and he refused to do it unless we called Jacob to make sure it was okay.  He loves his brothers and will play with them all in different ways during the day.  This is one of my favorite things he does with Max.

 Steven is funny, creative, artistic, and very inquisitive.  He also has a wonderful memory, especially for movies and songs. The other day we were in the car and Steven asked me what a word meant, I was unsure what he was saying and asked him to use it in a sentence.  Jacob laughed at me and said how can he use it in a sentence when he doesn't know what it is!?  But often Steven will then rattle off a quote from a movie we had watched a couple of weeks ago and wondered what it meant.

Today was his first day of Kindergarten.  He went last week to meet his teacher and have an evaluation, what would be the final decision for me whether we'd send him or not.  His teacher was awesome and said that he was smart!  Just like we thought he was right where the rest of the class was...okay I was still nervous that he wouldn't be ready in the areas they wanted him to be.  (Jacob and I were sitting across the room from them so nervous wondering what was being said and what would happen.)  In the end he also really wanted to go, so who are we to stop him!?

 (He picked out his own outfit, I probably would have gone a different route, but I wanted this to be all about him)  This kid by the way could care less about fashion; shoes on the the wrong feet?  Don't care.  Shirt or even pants on backwards?  Don't care mom.

 We had to park a couple of blocks away, since there were so many parents walking their kids in.

 Sego Lily (where my mom taught right out of BYU) is such a great school, and they rolled out the red carpet put balloons and cheerers along the way while blaring "Happy" as the kids walked into the school.  He was a little hesitant at first, but I think he enjoyed himself.

 We found his seat just in time for the teacher to tell the parents to leave.  I'll admit I got a little teary eyed walking out, just being so proud of the boy Steven has become.  We truly love Steven and are so glad he's the oldest and is a great example to his little brothers!

And he had a great first day!
